GPS Guidance and BaseStation2-SM receive AE50 awards

VALLEY, Neb. (January 13, 2010) — GPS Guidance and BaseStation2-SM from Valley Irrigation were recently recognized with AE50 awards from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).

To be recognized by the ASABE with an AE50 award, a product must have been introduced to the marketplace during the previous calendar year. Entries are judged by a panel of experts representing all facets of the agricultural, food, biological, and related systems engineering professions. Judges expect recognized products to save producers time, costs, and labor, while improving user safety.

According to Donna Hull, director of publications, ASABE, the annual AE50 program has been recognizing engineering achievements for more than two decades. Past winners include companies of all sizes throughout the world.

“The AE50 is the only award program of its kind, which celebrates companies for developments in specific areas of agricultural, food and biological systems,” Hull explained. “Many of the honored, new ideas that are given awards are patented and their names trademarked. In the future, some may even become household names. Others will be further improved as technology advances. But, all who achieved the award strive for excellence, and we are pleased to showcase each one.”

GPS Guidance is a cost-effective guidance option that eliminates the need for buried wire guidance systems; it is available on linear machines and corner arms. It is compatible with John Deere™ Starfire™ RTK technology to accurately steer the machine around the field for the most precise application of water and other crop inputs.

“GPS Guidance is proven technology that can be easily installed and quickly adapted to field or crop changes,” explained Scott Mauseth, product manager, Valley Irrigation. “As it is now offered on linears and corners, growers have more options for their operations.”

BaseStationThe BaseStation2-SM is a dedicated, centralized irrigation management system for a grower’s home or office computer. With the BaseStation2-SM, reliable, remote irrigation management is combined with the ability to monitor soil moisture status.

Valley Irrigation teamed up with Irrometer to incorporate Watermark sensors with the BaseStation2-SM software,” Mauseth said. “With the BaseStation2-SM, growers no longer need to make extra trips to the field to check soil moisture.”

These awards are a testament to the ongoing commitment of Valley Irrigation to develop innovative and technologically advanced products for growers utilizing mechanized irrigation equipment. Previous Valley products named to the AE50 list include: Computer Aided Management System (1991), BaseStation (1992), Precision Corner (2000), Pocket Pro (2003), Tracker Mobile (2009), and AutoPilot Linear (2009).

The Valley brand is recognized worldwide as the leader in sales, service, quality and innovation, and has been recognized as such since Valmont founded the mechanized irrigation industry in 1954. With historical sales of more than 175,000 center pivots and linears, Valmont-built equipment annually irrigates approximately 17 million acres (6.9 million hectares) around the world. The Nebraska-based company remains dedicated to providing innovative solutions now and well into the future.
